New Maruti WagonR 2025 Rolls Out with More Space, Smarter Looks & Solid Mileage

The WagonR has always been one of those cars that people buy with their eyes closed. It’s been a no-nonsense family hatch for over two decades. Now with the New Maruti Suzuki WagonR 2025, Maruti brings subtle design upgrades, tech enhancements, and a stronger safety focus. It’s still tall. Still boxy. But now it feels a bit more complete.

If you’re someone who values practicality, cabin space, and reliability more than anything else, this updated WagonR is going to feel just right.

Refreshed Styling

The tall-boy look is still very much alive. Maruti hasn’t changed the identity of the car. But it has cleaned up the face. The grille is wider now, with a neat black finish and a thin chrome strip across the middle.

Headlamps are reworked slightly. They now carry a more swept-back look and come with new halogen projectors in the higher trims. The bumper is chunkier and the fog lamp housing gets a black bezel.

From the side, you won’t spot major differences, but the new alloy wheel design does make it feel a little fresher. The rear gets revised tail lamps with LED guides and a larger reflector strip across the bumper.

The dual-tone paint scheme now includes a grey body with a contrasting black roof. Maruti is clearly trying to give this workhorse a slightly premium edge.

Spacious Cabin

Step inside the new WagonR, and you’ll feel the familiar roomy vibe. The dashboard design stays the same, but now there’s a new dual-tone theme. The beige and dark grey combo is brighter and makes the cabin feel more open.

The steering wheel is the same as the new Swift. Feels chunkier. Looks more modern. You get mounted audio and phone controls from the VXi trim onwards.

The MID (multi-info display) in the instrument cluster is larger now. Shows distance-to-empty, average fuel economy, outside temperature, and gear shift guidance.

Front seats are wide and supportive. Rear seat space continues to be WagonR’s biggest strength. Legroom is generous. Headroom is unmatched. Three adults can actually sit at the back without feeling crushed.

Touchscreen and Features

The 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen remains the main highlight in the ZXi trims. It now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Touch response has improved. The screen doesn’t lag as much as before. You get Bluetooth, USB, FM, voice commands, and basic phone connectivity.

The sound system is decent for a car this size. Four speakers offer clean output at mid-volumes.

Other handy features include:

  • Electrically adjustable ORVMs
  • Front and rear power windows
  • Tilt steering
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Rear parcel tray
  • 12V socket for rear passengers

There’s still no rear camera. But you do get reverse parking sensors with audio alerts. Could’ve been better, but it’s functional.

Engine and Transmission

The 2025 WagonR comes with the same two petrol engines. One is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder. The other is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder. Both are BS6 Phase 2 compliant and ready for E20 fuel.

1.0-litre Petrol

  • Power: 67 PS
  • Torque: 89 Nm
  • Gearbox: 5-speed manual or AMT

1.2-litre Petrol

  • Power: 90 PS
  • Torque: 113 Nm
  • Gearbox: 5-speed manual or AMT

If your usage is mostly within the city, the 1.0-litre makes more sense. It’s fuel-efficient and light to drive.

If you often drive with full load or take highways regularly, the 1.2-litre offers better grunt. It’s smoother and handles hills or overtakes without much effort.

AMT (AGS) variants come with hill-hold assist and creep function. They work well for bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Ride and Handling

The WagonR is still built on the Heartect platform. It keeps the car light but structurally stronger than older models.

Ride quality is soft. Small potholes and speed breakers are absorbed easily. At high speeds, it feels a bit floaty, especially with three passengers in the back. But it’s not unsafe. Just not very sharp.

The steering is light and makes tight turns simple. Parking is easy even in cramped spots. Turning radius is just 4.7 meters, which is great for city use.

Ground clearance stands at 165 mm. Enough for most Indian roads and tall speed bumps.

Fuel Efficiency

Maruti has worked on engine mapping for better efficiency. Claimed mileage figures are:

  • 1.0-litre Manual: 24.35 kmpl
  • 1.0-litre AMT: 25.19 kmpl
  • 1.2-litre Manual: 23.56 kmpl
  • 1.2-litre AMT: 24.43 kmpl

You can expect real-world figures between 18 to 21 kmpl depending on load and traffic conditions.

CNG Option

Yes, WagonR continues with its factory-fitted S-CNG variant. Available only with the 1.0-litre engine. It offers:

  • Power: 57 PS in CNG mode
  • Mileage: 34.05 km/kg (claimed)

Tank is in the boot, so luggage space goes down. But if you want low running costs and drive mostly within the city, the CNG variant is the most economical option.

Switching between petrol and CNG is seamless. There’s a dedicated button on the dashboard.

Safety Additions

Maruti has improved safety across the WagonR range. Dual airbags are standard on all trims. The top variants get four airbags now.

Other safety tech includes:

  • ABS with EBD
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Speed alert system
  • Seatbelt reminders for front occupants
  • Child seat anchor points (ISOFIX)

The body structure is more rigid. Cabin feels safer. You don’t hear rattles or loose panels even on rough roads.

Variants and Price

WagonR 2025 is available in four main trims: LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. Each offers manual and AMT options. CNG is available in LXI and VXI.

VariantEngineTransmissionFuel TypePrice (₹, ex-showroom)
LXI1.0LManualPetrol5.55 lakh
VXI1.0LManual/AMTPetrol/CNG6.10 – 6.70 lakh
ZXI1.2LManual/AMTPetrol6.90 – 7.30 lakh
ZXI+1.2LManual/AMTPetrol7.45 – 7.90 lakh

The pricing is still aggressive for what the car offers. Add low maintenance, cheap spares, and wide service network, and you know why it’s such a hit.

Ideal Buyers

This car is perfect for small families. It works for couples with kids. It also fits first-time buyers who want peace of mind. Even older folks love it for the easy ingress and upright seating.

WagonR is also a big favorite among fleet operators and office-goers. It’s reliable. It’s frugal. And now, it looks a bit more upmarket than before.
